Blaze TV host Dana Loesch had a “surreal” experience Friday in meeting Candace Cameron Bure, who famously played D.J. Tanner in the hit series “Full House” and recently released the book Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose.
“I watched [Full House] from the very beginning,” Loesch said, “and my mom was fine letting me watch it because it was wholesome, and it realistically portrayed families and all of the issues that they dealt with.”
So what happens when the two strong, successful women get together to discuss faith and marriage?
Well, it was a conversation Marie Claire likely wouldn’t appreciate, having slammed Bure for “setting women back approximately a billion years” for choosing to have a more submissive role in her own marriage.
“I almost thought that that Marie Claire tweet was a fake,” Bure admitted. “Like, really? They’re tweeting this out? OK…”
The actress explained that she based her decision to be more submissive on her faith, which she has proudly discussed in the past. She cited 1 Peter 3:1 as one of the most influential verses in the matter.
“Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, so that even if they do not obey the Word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wife,” Bure said from memory. “[And] I grabbed onto that verse because my husband wasn’t really a believer. And so I went, ‘he can be shown God without my saying a word.’”
The actress continued: “I started doing Bible studies about being a godly wife, and how [I could] reflect that to my husband without nagging him all the time, or throwing up the gospel all the time … because you get sick of hearing it!”
Bure said building her husband up “into the man God wants him to become” just “made sense,” and she believed that was the best way to do it.
“You continue to be a role model, and a very positive role model,” Loesch told the actress. “God bless you for what you do!”
