A man shot inside a Walmart has died, according to authorities.

Chandler (Ariz.) Police Sgt. Joe Favazzo identified the victim only as a 36-year-old man from Phoenix, according to KNXV-TV in Phoenix.

The shooting occurred about 4 p.m. Sunday at the Walmart in Chandler, which is about a half hour southeast of Phoenix. Favazzo said the call to police indicated that one shot was fired.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but later died, the Associated Press reported, adding that his name hasn’t been released.

Favazzo said the shooter is a 25-year-old Chandler man who left the scene for his home where family members called police after he told them what occurred. The shooter hasn’t been identfied but is being questioned by police and is being cooperative, Favazzo said. The AP reported the shooter hasn’t been arrested yet.

Favazzo said detectives indicated that surveillance video shows a physical confrontation between the men prior to the shooting and that there are numerous witnesses to whom police are also speaking.

No one else was injured, and the Walmart is closed until 7 a.m. Monday, according to a sign posted on the door.
