‘Uninspiring…Timid and Afraid of Their Own Shadow’: Beck and Hannity Have Harsh Words for the GOP

Talk radio personalities Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity have often been accused of being “shills” for the Republican Party. But the two said Tuesday that anyone who makes such a claim likely hasn’t listened to them for at least the past year.

“The Republican Party is uninspiring,” Hannity said flatly during an interview on Beck’s radio program. “They are timid and afraid of their own shadow. And like the Democrats, they seem most concerned about one thing and one thing only, and that’s their own political power.”

Beck said he believes many in the GOP care more about “winning” than the Constitution, and Hannity added: “I don’t even think their strategy for winning is particularly good.”

“I’m not saying that they’re good strategists,” Beck clarified. “I’m saying that’s all they believe in … power, power, power.”

Hannity and Beck both said, however, that there are at least two Republican lawmakers in Washington they could support in a 2016 presidential election: Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.

Hannity said he’s not certain whether Cruz will run, but he is fairly confident that Paul will.

“The American people have to decide this: are they willing to accept an America where 50 million Americans are on food stamps?” Hannity asked. “The labor participation rate is the lowest since 1978. One in five American children are in poverty … Are they willing to accept more of that? Or are they now open to the idea that we’ve gone in the wrong direction, and America needs conservative solutions to change?”
