Attorney General Eric Holder was hospitalized for several hours Thursday after feeling faint and short of breath, the Justice Department said.

“During his regular morning meeting with senior staff, the attorney general began experiencing symptoms including faintness and shortness of breath,” Justice Department public affairs director Brian Fallon said in a statement.

Holder, 63, was taken to a Washington area hospital “as a precaution,” Fallon said, and was “alert and conversing with his doctors.”

He was discharged after several hours and sent home to rest, the Associated Press reported.
