Glenn Beck heaped praise on an American anchor working with the state-owned TV network Russia Today who publicly resigned on the air Wednesday.
“I love this woman,” Beck said with a laugh on his radio program. “I love this anchor. I love what she said.”
Anchor Liz Wahl publicly resigned after saying she faces “many ethical and moral challenges” in working for RT, particularly since her grandparents fled Soviet persecution as refugees during the Hungarian Revolution.
“I cannot be part of a network that is funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of Putin,” she concluded. “I am proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth. And that is why after this newscast I am resigning.”
Beck asked: “Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a journalist or two that cared about the Fourth Amendment or the First Amendment enough to say, ‘Hey you know what? They’re threatening my [journalist friends]. They are spying on their parents. The NSA is violating the Fourth Amendment, and I know what’s going on.”
Beck said he would love to hear such an anchor say: “I’m an American first. I’m not a Democrat. I’m not a progressive. I’m not a Republican. I’m not a Tea Party person. I’m an American. And there are certain truths that we used to hold self-evident.”
Beck went a step further, saying NBC’s Brian Williams ought to make the declaration: “You know what? We have edited things out of context … I’m sorry, guys, but it is my face on this. I am the face of NBC news. And when Andrea Mitchell comes out and she makes those cuts and she knows it, I quit. We either fix this and clean this up or I quit.”
“We can still disagree,” Beck said, but we have to stand together on “principles.”
