Though Olympians last week pulled out of Sochi, the Russian host city of the Winter Games, it appears they left behind some of the problems they experienced with their accommodations.

Ahead of the Paralympic Games, which began Friday, Team USA sled hockey goalie Steve Cash found himself stuck in a Sochi bathroom. The same thing happened to U.S. bobsledder Johnny Quinn a few weeks ago – except Cash couldn’t bust through the door.

While Cash’s successful rescue is good news, the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games are somewhat tainted with recent events involving Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine.

Sochi is just across the Black Sea from the Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula where Russian military advanced in the week after the Winter Olympics. In response to this controversial move, the White House said this week that it would not send a presidential delegation to the Paralympic Games. Britain has also decided not to send ministers to the Paralympic Games.

President Barack Obama still supports the U.S. athletes participating and wished them success.

Vice President Joe Biden Monday urged Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to pull back its forces from the Ukraine.
