The Chicago River’s hue has morphed to an emerald green, as the city kicks of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Photographs posted online show the city’s iconic body of water glowing emerald green after the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Union Local 130 dropped dye into the river.

The tradition has taken place since 1962.
