House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told reporters Thursday that Barack Obama is the most nonpartisan president she has ever worked with.
The California Democrat said during a press conference that the president has “all along extended the hand of friendship to the Republicans,” specifically mentioning the president’s State of the Union remarks on immigration reform and demonstrating that he’s “willing to work with” the GOP.
“So this is about as nonpartisan a president as I’ve ever served with,” Pelosi said.
Later that same day, the president praised Pelosi during a fundraiser in Florida, telling an audience that she will be remembered as an excellent speaker of the House.
Pelosi “will go down in history as one of the greatest speakers in our history,” Obama said, adding that he would like to see her retake the gavel from existing House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) after the midterms.
“She is as tough and principled and as visionary as any member of Congress that we’ve ever seen and I’m grateful to call her a friend,” Obama said.
