She’s only 9 years old, but this small town Tennessee girl has taken the Internet by storm.
After Emily Sunshine Hamilton’s flea market performance of “Blue Yodel No. 6″ went viral over the weekend, the 9-year-old singer has been inundated with dozens of interview requests from media outlets throughout the country.
“It’s been crazy,” Hamilton, whose stage name is Emi Sunshine, told TheBlaze Tuesday.
She added, however, “I love it.”
Since video of her belting out the lyrics to Jimmie Rodger’s famous song went viral, the young musical artist has seen thousands of new fans added to her Facebook page, with hundreds of comments pouring in from new fans.
“You have such a soulful sound for someone your age,” wrote one individual on her wall.
“Wow! I just saw one of your videos for the first time and got goosebumps,” echoed another. “You have an incredible voice …. You are going places!”
Her mother, Alisha Hamilton, told TheBlaze that the demand for her daughter’s songs has been unprecedented.
“A lot of sales,” she said. “We didn’t even have her website finished yet … it’s been kind of crazy.”
Watch Emi Sunshine perform her original song, “Little Black Bird”:
In fact, Hamilton said she never expected her daughter’s flea market performance to go viral. She told TheBlaze her daughter had performed at that particular music shop on several occasions and that this time things just happened to be different.
“That day just happened to be a day that somebody caught it on film,” she said.
Sunshine, who has already written the lyrics to about 30 songs at the age of 9, first performed when she was 4 years old.
“She first sang at a wedding,” her mom said.
Since then, she has had a knack for music — playing multiple instruments and having a unique talent for writing music.
“They just come in my head,” Sunshine told TheBlaze.
“If she sees somebody on the street she thinks about it and maybe six months later comes back and says, ‘Remember that guy we saw?’ She then writes a song about it,” her mom further explained.
At the moment, Sunshine has one album available for download on iTunes. Her family is currently working on making her others available there.
And, while the 9-year-old singer has been contacted by multiple media outlets requesting interviews, she’s still waiting to hear from someone in the music industry.
“No, we haven’t been contacted by any recording studios yet,” her mother said.
