You know how the saying goes, “that’s the Rolls-Royce of”…gum, shoes, bagels…anything. To describe something immaculate or well-designed, people throw the Rolls brand around to label their ideal version of a product. Like these guys, who claim they’ve found “the Rolls-Royce of jeans.”
Well now we get to see the Rolls-Royce of…boats.
“The creative goal of the project was the successful amalgamation of automotive styling and ideation into the sub 50ft pleasure yacht market, without forcing a literal translation of design,” Monro said.
Translation: He made the car look like a boat without being too obvious about it.
Munro said he came up with the idea after spending time with the company as an intern in 2012.
“The idea developed from my exposure to the automotive market and the desire to translate elements of styling & functional design to an alternative industrial design sector,” he said.
Unfortunately, the Rolls brand does get thrown out there rather loosely.
But Munro’s designs are so good, they’ve actually been embraced by the company. The luxury auto manufacturer displayed Munro’s artistic designs at the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars headquarters building in Goodwood, England.
The Short List shared these pictures as if the boat was ready to take to the seas now: “Encompassing an oversized grill, familiar “spirit of ecstasy” badge, cushy six-seater furnishings and, we suspect, a growling engine, the nicely-curved 47ft beauty is heavily modelled on the Rolls-Royce Phantom, bringing much of the car-maker’s refined on-road elegance to the open waves.”
Unfortunately, Bond villains and billionaire playboys will have to drool a while longer. There is no current plan for the automotive company to turn the unique designs into a marketable sea craft.
“The project is a concept and will most likely remain a concept … there are no plans to develop it further,” Monro said.
