An Oregon mother is accused of subjecting her 4-year-old boy to deadly beatings because she suspected he was gay, prosecutors contended this week.
According to prosecutors, Jessica Dutro-Bogess — charged with one count of murder, five counts of murder by abuse and one count of second-degree assault — messaged her boyfriend Brian Canady that she was afraid her son Zachary was gay.
“Hes (sic) going to be a ***,” she said, according to court documents, KATU-TV reported. “He walks and talks it ugh it pisses me off.”
Prosecutor Megan Johnson argued the message shows Dutro’s motive for subjecting her son to torture and abuse, according to the Oregonian.
In one message, she said Zachary was “facing the wall” because he had made her mad.
The 4-year-old was taken to the hospital August 14, 2012, suffering from trauma to his abdomen that caused tears in his bowel, the Oregonian reported. He was removed from life support two days later.
Canady pled guilty earlier this month to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault in the 4-year-old’s death.
