Reality TV star Kim Kardashian has once again tread into a geopolitical debate and is once again being slammed — but also praised — by social media users, some who threw insults at her including “whore” and “imbecile.”

After hearing about the seizure of the predominantly Armenian Christian town of Kessab in northwest Syria, Kardashian took to Twitter over the weekend to voice support for the residents, most of whom fled after Al Qaeda-linked rebels took over.

Kardashian, who is of Armenian descent, called the situation “heartbreaking” and – referring to the Armenian genocide of 1.5 million by the Ottomans in the early 20th century – prayed history will not “repeat itself.”

She wrote:

Please let's not let history repeat itself!!!!!! Let's get this trending!!!! #SaveKessab #ArmenianGenocide

Others accused Kardashian of serving as a mouthpiece for Syrian President Bashar Assad, whom jihadi and other rebels are trying to topple.

As TheBlaze reported last week, reports have emerged from Kessab alleging that the Islamist rebels had pulled crosses off of churches and pillaged homes.

Kardashian’s publicist Ina Treciokas told the Associated Press that Kardashian was “just voicing her support for Armenians.”

According to the AP, the #SaveKessab hashtag was being used by Assad loyalists, some of whom had presented false claims about what occurred in the village, prompting further criticism of Kardashian.

In 2012, when Israel was facing a barrage of Hamas rocket attacks, Kardashian unleashed fury from pro-Palestinian activists when she tweeted, “Praying for everyone in Israel.”

In response, Kardashian later posted this message: “And praying for everyone in Palestine and across the world!”

When that didn’t stop the uproar, Kardashian removed the tweets altogether.
