DOVER, N.J. (AP) — No stolen hearts on this first date. Instead a New Jersey woman said a man she met on a dating website stole her dog and her flat-screen TV.

Police said the pair went out for the first time Thursday night, according to the Daily Record of Parsippany.

After they entered the woman’s home that evening, she said she became occupied in another room, leaving the man alone.

Bad idea.

When she returned, he was gone — and so were her $3,000 TV as well as Violet, her pricey Yorkshire Terrier, which she said is worth a cool $4,000.

The woman says she knew her date only as Joel and believes he lives in Elizabeth. He wore a black hooded jacket, blue jeans and black boots on the date. His vehicle was described as a gold-colored Mercedes, possibly from 2004 or 2005, with black and beige leather interior and tinted windows, the Daily Record said.

Sgt. Richard Gonzalez says police are searching for the man and dog and are checking other locations the short-lived couple visited. Police added that the suspected thief used the woman’s cell phone, so they’re trying to obtain fingerprints from the phone, the Daily Record noted.
