U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) narrowly escaped getting hit by a passing train at a commuter safety press conference Saturday.
The senator, speaking at a conference aimed at increasing commuter safety, can be seen on video violating a key safety rule: standing over the yellow warning strip.
According to the MTA, “Standing on or at the yellow platform edge strip is dangerous.” In an effort to increase awareness, the transit authority has posted this safety message throughout the Subway system, warning that 141 individuals were struck by trains in 2012.
To add to the irony, Milford Mayor Ben Blake quipped that “safety, as you know, is paramount” as the train went by.
