A simple accident in the tiny town of Lynnville, Tennessee, has led to a perplexing and fascinating discovery.
It all started when Heather Andrews accidentally dropped one of her many garden gnomes on the sidewalk. As she was picking up the pieces, the woman noticed something strange inside the now broken gnome: A mysterious statue.
The statue is “fused” to the top and bottom of the gnome and was somehow crafted inside the lawn ornament, according to WSMV-TV.
“I think the face has really intricate detail and someone spent a lot of time on the face. The anatomy on the body looks feminine to me, but I don’t know. I am just biased to it, I guess,” Andrews told the news station.
It’s not clear what the statue represents, but there are plenty of theories. Some reportedly say it seems to show Jesus’ head on a woman’s body, others say it’s simply an angel.
WSMV-TV reports the gnome came from Target, but there’s no evidence suggesting that all of the gnomes were created in the same way. If it is a one-of-a-kind item, one has to wonder why its creator went to such great lengths to create the statue that may have never been seen.
Andrews apparently proceeded to break all of her other garden gnomes to see if there were any other surprises to be found… but there were none.
“A lot of people are scared of it – just creeped out by it. We’ve adopted him and named him Pete,” Andrews said.
Pete the gnome now has his own Facebook page, too.
One woman claims to have found a personal connection to this bizarre discovery.
“[T]his is really amazing because my boyfriend just passed away and his name was pete,” she wrote on Facebook.
