On Memorial Day, Evelyn Moore turns 90. This inspirational, former U.S. Marine is marking the special day with friends and family, but she also finds herself receiving cards from well-wishers and Marines serving around the world.
The woman, known to many as “Sgt. Mom,” is not just a supporter of the United State Marine Corps, she served in the USMC from 1950-55.
She has been reading the letters to her mother, sharing the tributes like the one sent from “Christine USMC”: “You have led the way for us that follow you and we will always be grateful may God bless you.”
At the care facility where Moore lives in Somerville, Massachusetts, she receives more mail than any of the other residents — most of it from complete strangers who write to let the 90 year old know how important and inspiring she is to them.
