What was supposed to be a poker night turned into an unforgettable late-night fishing trip for a group of friends in Florida.

Earlier this month, Dustin Richter and his friends went to Boynton Beach to fish, completely unaware of the creature that would soon be caught by one of them. The group actually went a long time without any action and were getting ready to head home, according to Richter.

But when one of his friends finally got a bite, it quickly became clear that they were dealing with something strong and large. It took them roughly two hours to pull in the creature — and it turned out to be an 11-foot, 500-pound, nearly-extinct sawfish.

The guys reportedly released the fish back into the water, but not before getting one of the fish’s teeth as a trophy.
