Members of the pro-gun group Open Carry Texas reportedly continued their crusade to promote the right to open carry firearms, this time at a Texas Sonic and Chili’s franchise. They were ultimately asked to leave both establishments.
Both demonstrations were reportedly filmed by the group, but were later removed for some reason. Mother Jones reportedly obtained copies of the videos and published them.
During the Chili’s demonstration, the group was met with some hostility. One customer called them “Texas retards” and video recorded them. The manager of the restaurant eventually told the demonstrators that he would be happy to serve them, but asked that they leave their firearms outside.
When members of Open Carry Texas visited a Sonic location, they were once again asked to leave or leave their weapons behind before returning.
“Man, we can’t do nothing!” one of the protesters says in the video. “I feel like I’m a kid again, my mom won’t let me do anything.”
As Mediaite’s Andrew Kirell notes, “Neither Chili’s nor Sonic have issued company-wide policies on open carry in their restaurants.”
