A man who aimed to go on a peaceful bike ride with a friend through the woods was stunned when he stumbled upon the aftermath of an illegal rave.

“Rich & I thought we’d go for nice quiet sunshine ride at the Dyke on the South Downs way, what we saw next was just plain surreal and not a bunch of badgers,” a description of the video on Tim Fry’s YouTube page said.

Police said that about 2,000 people attended the U.K. rave at a valley in South Downs called Devil’s Dyke, according to the BBC. They suspect that about 400 vehicles and seven sound systems were present at the giant party.

However, authorities made the decision not to shut down the party, citing darkness, rain and the immense number of people present.

“The police can always call people in if they need help,” Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne told the BBC.

“But if they have made an operational decision because there are 2,000 people there, and going in disrupting them would push people who are intoxicated, who are high on drugs, out on to the roads, then clearly that would be dangerous, and I could understand why they would want to contain them,” she added.
