The Sudanese woman who was sentenced to death for refusing to renounce her Christian faith is reportedly being freed.

According to a BBC report, Meriam Ibrahim, who was pregnant when she was sentenced to death and has since given birth in captivity, will not be subjected to death.

Abdullahi Alzareg, an under-secretary at the foreign ministry, told the BBC that Sudan guaranteed religious freedom and was committed to protecting the woman, saying she would be freed in a few days.

Ibrahim was raised Orthodox Christian, but a Sudanese court found her guilty of apostasy because Islam had been the faith of her father.

The court also annulled her marriage to American citizen Daniel Wani, finding it to be in violation of Islamic law.
