The parent, who sent an email to KOMO-TV, but wished to remain anonymous, said she was left in tears by what she witnessed when she accompanied her 17-year-old daughter to the event put on by Bellingham High School drama teacher Teri Grimes.

“I sat there with my mouth open in shock and the final straw was when a joke was told on stage about a teacher, a lawyer and a priest on a plane,” the unidentified parent wrote to KOMO. “The plane was going down and the teacher says we have to save the children. The attorney says ‘F*** the children!’ and the priest says ‘OOOOH..Do we have time for that???’”

That’s when the parent says she left.

In her email to KOMO, she provided more details, saying vulgar language was used throughout the program and contended that some of the awards were inappropriate for children. One category she said was titled “the horniest stud,” and featured a box of sex toys as the prize. Another category was for the “horniest girl,” according to KOMO.

“WE need to get the word out there that THIS is the kind of TRASH that is being taught in our schools. I am so shocked right now I am in tears,” the parent said in her email.

On Tuesday, Grimes — a veteran teacher of three decades — issued an apology.

“I deeply apologize for some very inappropriate comments and actions made during our drama students’ end-of-the-year awards ceremony,” she wrote. “This is not representative of our students who take such great pride in their school and respect one another.”

“Much of the evening was a great celebration of their work. However, as a teacher and the club’s leader, I take full responsibility and am extremely sorry,” the statement concluded.

According to KOMO, Grimes has not yet been disciplined as the situation remains under investigation. The district, however, said the school principal held a productive meeting with her and the drama students.

The mother told KOMO that she is satisfied with the school’s response.
