Glenn Beck was so moved by a 17-year-old singer at a local graduation ceremony that he offered to use all of the resources at his disposal to make sure the country heard her music.
“This is about one of the best versions of ‘My Country ‘Tis Of Thee’ I have ever heard,” Beck wrote in a late-night email to his staff. “The thing I heard last week is really all the song needs: authenticity. It comes from a place that is totally genuine and real.”
The 17-year-old is named Abby Anderson, and she is a classically trained singer, songwriter, pianist and guitar player.
Beck approached Anderson’s family after the graduation ceremony and asked if she would be willing to record the song, which was her own arrangement of the classic “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Anderson agreed and her song, which she called “Let Freedom Ring,” is now for available at glennbeck.com and on iTunes.
Anderson and her family have pledged to donate all proceeds from the single to Mercury One’s Active Military and Veterans Fund.
“All proceeds go to the charity … there’s nobody taking anything off the top of this at Mercury One,” Beck said on his radio program Wednesday. “We don’t make a dime off of it.”
Beck quickly found out that he is not the only one to admire Anderson’s talents. The teen has shared a stage with Peter Frampton, Peter Cetera, Lee Greenwood, Angela Johnson, Charlie Pride, and many many others.
Glenn Beck added Wednesday that when Garth Brooks first heard Anderson, “he brought her over to Trisha Yearwood and said, ‘You are going to love this girl. Give her a couple minutes.’”
“I’m saying the same thing to you,” Beck told his audience. “You’re going to love this girl.”
Beck played “Let Freedom Ring” on his radio program Wednesday, and you can hear it below:
