With two hours left in the very last day of school of her senior year of high school, Violet Burkhart said the milestone she wanted to be “great and exciting” was “pretty much ruined.”

The culprit?

How did she find out?

She said teachers at Central Davidson High School pulled her aside and measured her dress in the middle of the hallway — then called her mother and said she had to go home and change, reported WGHP-TV in High Point, North Carolina.

Burkhart then called her mom in tears.

“I literally looked back at the clock and I’m thinking, ‘It’s one in the afternoon on her last day of her senior year,” Amy Redwine, Burkhart’s mother, told WGHP. “My daughter — it’s supposed to be one of her best days and she’s there crying.”

Redwine isn’t disputing the dress code but believes things could have been handled better — especially given Violet wore the dress to school several other times.

“If I thought this dress was inappropriate, I would have never allowed her to wear the dress,” Redwine told WGHP.

But Mom has some payback planned.

On Saturday’s graduation, she’s wearing the dress that got her daughter sent home.

“If her dress is too short, then my dress is too short,” Redwine told WGHP, “and I’m going to wear it in front of everybody and be proud just like she should have been able to on her last day.”

The school district did not respond to WGHP’s requests for comment regarding the matter.
