Adam Brandon, the executive vice president of FreedomWorks, said that while he was in the green room preparing to appear on “The Glenn Beck Program” with guest host Dana Loesch on Monday, the Associated Press gave him a curious phone call.
Groups like FreedomWorks, True the Vote, and the Tea Party Patriots, among others, have sent poll monitors to Mississippi ahead of the GOP primary runoff between U.S. Senator Thad Cochran and state Senator Chris McDaniel on Tuesday.
There have been reports of voter fraud, and according to the New York Times, fewer than 3,000 votes separated the two candidates in the June 3 primary.
Brandon said that while he was in the green room, he “started getting phone calls from the Associated Press and CNN, asking us if this is racially motivated.”
“[They] flat-out asked us that,” Brandon added.
The left has claimed that poll monitors from groups like FreedomWorks could be a form of voter intimidation, and that being asked to show a photo ID before voting discriminates against minorities.
But Loesch was scornful of such claims, saying conservatives want nothing more than to ensure fair and free elections in an era where voter fraud is far more common than it should be.
