Glenn Beck announced on his radio program Monday that the charity he founded, Mercury One, had raised over $700,000 to provide food, water, clothing and toys for the illegal immigrant children being held at the U.S.-Mexico border. On Tuesday, Beck said that amount had more than doubled in just 24 hours.

“I come to you today to report that the new number on money raised is $1.9 million,” Beck said on his radio program. “It’s astounding. $1.9 million.”

Beck said that once the amount surpasses $2 million, he wants to start raising money for the Border Patrol agents who are “going through hell,” and make sure that any rancher that is “deeply affected by what is going on on our border” is also taken care of.

“I want to take care of the border union, because the border union is fighting for their life,” Beck said. “They are overwhelmed right now because of this, and nobody is talking about the Border Patrol agents.”

Beck has repeatedly stated that those who are in the United States illegally must be sent back to their home countries, but that Americans have a responsibility to care for those in need while they are on the U.S. side of the border.

“Our job is to provide relief,” he said. “This is not political. We are there to provide relief by anybody who is truly affected.”

Beck said: “We are there to take care of the communities, and the communities are not just the kids. … We went to the churches and said, ‘What do you need? We know you’re overwhelmed.’ They told us. We’re bringing it. Now, the next step: the Border Patrol union, the sheriffs and the ranchers, the community that is there. How can we help them?”

Beck appeared on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” Monday to discuss his upcoming trip to the border, and how the crisis is being handled in Washington.

“It’s evil, what’s happening to the children all the way around,” Beck said. “To have them used for political purposes — I don’t care if it’s the left or the right that’s doing it. It is wrong. It is shameful. It’s un-American, and it’s not the Christian thing to do.”

“We must unite and come together, at least on this,” Beck pleaded. “Let’s be decent people and take care of the kids while they’re here.”
