A 56-year-old Grand Rapids, Michigan, woman was forced to protect herself against a man who broke into her home and threatened to kill her, but just what she used that saved her from more serious injuries might surprise you.
It was a blanket.
According to the Grand Rapids Press, Curtis Hopkins, a registered sex offender who was released on parole last year after another breaking and entering incident, faces criminal charges, including attempted murder.
The newspaper reported that the victim was sleeping in her living room chair when Hopkins allegedly entered her home early Friday morning. When she woke, the Press reported, he had a knife and apparently yelled ”I’m going to kill you.”
According to the Grand Rapids Police Department’s news release, one person in the home physically confronted the intruder while another yelled at him.
Thanks to the blanket, the woman only had a minor wound on her chest after she was attacked, the Press reported.
A fingerprint left by the attacker, who fled the scene before authorities arrived, led police to identify Hopkins as a suspect. He was arrested Monday. It is unclear why Hopkins entered the woman’s home in the first place.
