Manhattan apartment dweller Samuel Jacobs walked into his unit on the 15th floor and was soon in a panic.
He couldn’t find his 6-year-old cat Gizmo, reported WCBS-TV in New York.
Searching everywhere in the apartment Tuesday, Jacobs finally headed for his balcony — where no owner of a missing cat who lives that high off the ground wants to go.
Jacobs looked over the edge. And there was Gizmo, all the way down on a third-floor overhang after landing on a skylight, the station reported.
“I didn’t know if he was alive. I didn’t know if he was dead,” Jacobs told WCBS. “I thought he was dead.”
Readying himself for the worst, Jacobs got help from a building porter and was soon on the overhang heading toward Gizmo.
Who was alive. And purring.
“He looked so relieved to see me,” Jacobs told the station. “He was scared and just crying and screaming.”
Even more amazing was that Gizmo’s visit to the vet revealed only minor injuries — among them a chipped tooth, WCBS reported.
“Unbelievable,” Jacobs told WCBS. “I thought he was at least gonna have broken body parts, broken legs.”
But the relieved owner noted to WCBS-AM, Gizmo is “the luckiest cat ever.”
