Video of a doctor detailing the one particular case that he will never forget has taken the Internet by storm this week — and when you finish watching the conclusion, it becomes clear why.
The video focuses on Dr. Alex Levy of the Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida. Levy explains that as one of the newer doctors, he was on-call Christmas Eve 2009.
That day would forever change his life.
A 4-year-old girl named Chloe was brought into the emergency room by her parents, Mark and Michelle Williams. The child had been sick and, after some tests, Levy had the unfortunate news of telling the parents she had a cancerous brain tumor.
“I’ll never forget that the dad said to me, ‘Will I ever get to walk my daughter in her wedding?’” Levy recalled. ”I said to him, ‘I don’t know, but we’re going to try damn hard to make that happen.’”
Three surgeries later and a year-and-a-half of chemotherapy, Levy said Chloe was cancer-free and free to go home.
“And I remember that I told the father, I said, ‘The only thing I ever want is to be able to go to her wedding one day,’” Levy recalled. “He told me a couple weeks ago that he was planning to have me walk her.”
“When that dad gives me a call and tells me to walk Chloe down the aisle for her wedding, I’ll probably retire after that because I don’t think there could be a greater high or sense of fulfillment after that,” he said.
“It’s the truth of it. What else after that?”
The video was produced in 2012, but only went viral recently. According to WABC-TV, Chloe has since had a few setbacks, but is now once again healthy.
