Officials in Atlantic City, New Jersey, voted on Wednesday to ban the sale and possession of toy guns.
Police have argued that some toy guns look too realistic and have been used in crimes. Toy guns that are brightly colored or transparent as well as non-firing antiques and film prop guns are permitted under the ordinance, WPVI-TV reports.
Officials from Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., reportedly contacted one Atlantic City councilman about the toy gun ban. Councilman George Tibbitt said he hopes other cities adopt similar ordinances.
“This is catching on. This may be saying some lives,” Council President William Marsh told the Press of Atlantic City.
