More Than 2,000 Piglets on the Loose After Truck Crashes in Ohio

Hundreds of piglets are dead and more than 2,000 are on the loose after a truck carrying them crashed on an Ohio highway Monday, officials said.

“There’s quite a few dead pigs,” Xenia Township Fire Chief Dean Fox told the Dayton Daily News.

The crash occurred at about 7:05 p.m. local time on the U.S. 35. Fox acknowledged that many of the pigs had escaped and likely won’t be captured.

“Probably we’ll never get a hold of them … We’ll try as hard as we can, but we probably won’t retrieve them all. I can’t say what will happen to the pigs,” he told the Dayton Daily News.

Police said the driver will be cited for failure to control a motor vehicle. A female passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries.
