When Black Lives Matter protesters chanted “pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon,” they were only being “playful” with officers, the leader of the demonstration told MSNBC on Tuesday.
Activist Trahern Crews claimed the Black Lives Matter movement doesn’t “hate” police officers and then said he wanted to “put that chant in context.”
Crews claimed police officers who were escorting and protecting the protesters were having such a good time that they seemed like they wanted to join the demonstration.
“So on the way back, the officer leading the parade kept talking into his microphone and saying things to the crowd, like, ‘Stay off the median, do that,’ he was laughing and joking with the marchers, so then the marchers kind of started chanting that towards him,” he added. “It was more playful than anything.”
Wanting to confirm what he was actually claiming, host Chris Hayes asked, “You’re saying, that was in a playful context, that chant?”
“At that particular demonstration, yes,” Crews responded, later adding, “And, and, and he, and the officer also said, when they started chanting, he said back into the microphone, everybody loves bacon.”
