‘The Voice’ Contestant Stuns With ‘Brilliant’ Rendition of ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’: ‘Goosebumps’

A rendition of “Great Is My Faithfulness” performed on “The Voice” Monday night prompted an immediate standing ovation from the audience and jumped to the number two song on the iTunes chart within an hour.

The song was performed by contestant Jordan Smith who said it reminded him of “growing up and singing in church with my family.”

“God provides,” Smith explained. “He’s like, ‘I’m going to do everything for you, all you have to do is wake up every morning and be who you are.'”

Smith’s powerful performance brought the audience, including the three judges, to their feet. The host noted that there were even “tissues out.”

“Coming off the weekend and the horrible things that happened over in Paris and just kind of having a heavy hear the last few days, thank you for that,” said Blake Shelton, a judge on the show.

“Dude, you had me standing up in the middle of the song,” echoed Pharrell, another judge. “I think everybody needs to go to iTunes right now. I don’t care about the vote. Go to iTunes right now and buy this song from this guy right now!”

It appeared many heeded Pharrell’s advice. Within an hour of the performance, Smith’s performance of the hymn had risen to the number two song on the iTunes chart, just behind Adele’s “Hello.”

Viewers also praised the song.

“I’m not religious or anything,” wrote one, “this is just brilliant.”

“Goosebumps,” commented one more.
