Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called former President Bill Clinton “one of the great abusers of the world” during a rally Wednesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
After Hillary Clinton accused her Republican rival of sexism, Trump dismissed the accusations as “nonsense” and responded by alluding to past allegations of the former president’s extramarital affairs and sexual relationship with a White House intern.
“For the last week she’s been hitting me really hard with the woman card,” Trump said. “You can’t let people push you around. You can’t let people tell lies,” he added, claiming that nobody respects women more than he does.
Trump said he loves “the concept” of having a woman president, but he called Clinton “hollow.”
He noted that though Clinton mentioned his name “nine times” during the Democratic debate, she neglected to do so at all during her final town hall of 2015 in New Hampshire on Tuesday.
“I wonder why,” Trump said.
Trump also mentioned a recent poll that showed Clinton and him as the top overall competitors, but he said that he hasn’t really focused on Clinton yet.
In a few days, Bill Clinton will head to New Hampshire to campaign on behalf of his wife.
