One boy from Bloomington, Illinois, recently wrote a letter to Marcus Luttrell about his Eagle Scout project geared toward honoring U.S. veterans — a project that Luttrell loved and shared with more than 1 million Facebook fans Thursday.
Luttrell, 40, a former United States Navy SEAL whose actions in Operation Red Wings in June 2005 against the Taliban was the focus of the 2013 “Lone Survivor” film, received the Navy Cross and Purple Heart for his service.
“This young man wrote me a letter about his Eagle Scout project,” Luttrell wrote in his Facebook post. “Kudos to this young man and all who strive to earn Eagle Scout. If you can donate a couple dollars to help him reach his goal, that would make a huge impact on him. God Bless.”
On the post, Luttrell included a link to the boy’s GoFundMe project, called “The Patriot Project,” that seeks to raise money to install a flag pole. The project’s description says, “For my Eagle Project, I am installing a flag pole off a local trail to honor those who have and will serve our country and their family members. Any help is much appreciated!”
Luttrell also shared the link via the Patriot Tour’s Facebook page. The boy’s project has raised $1,390 of the end goal of $2,200.
