Cruz Refuses to Trade ‘Profane’ Barbs With Trump: ‘The People of New Hampshire Deserve Better’

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Ted Cruz responded Tuesday to Donald Trump referring to him as a nasty term the day before — calling his fellow 2016 candidate’s insult “crude and profane.”

The Texas senator added that Trump can say whatever he wants but said New Hampshire voters will see through it.

“My approach from the beginning has been am not going to respond in kind,” Cruz told reporters outside a campaign stop at the Red Arrow diner in downtown Manchester on primary day. “I am not going to insult Donald. I think the people of New Hampshire deserve better than someone just throwing mud and insulting the other candidates.”

“Listen, there is a reason Donald Trump engages in insults,” Cruz said. “Because he cannot defend his own record.”
