The report came just hours after Trump went on the MSNBC program and referred to Scarborough and Brzezinski as “supporters,” prompting them both to push back against the billionaire’s statement.

“Hello! @JoeNBC & @morningmika hung out in Trump’s hotel room last night during primary returns, 2 sources tell me,” Byers tweeted Wednesday.

But Scarborough unleashed on Byers, saying, “Your sources are wrong.”

“You spread a different lie about us every day,” Scarborough tweeted.

But Scarborough didn’t stop there.

He went on to criticize Byers and CNN for their “Morning Joe” “obsession,” while touting his audience.

The fiery exchange continued as Byers issued a challenge to Scarborough to “go on rec[ord] and say I’m wrong.”

“This game of not responding/staying off-rec then issuing ad hominems doesn’t work,” Byers tweeted.

Scarborough did not respond to Byers before this story was published.

MSNBC responded to CNN’s report in a statement, saying that Scarborough and Brzezinski were at Trump’s hotel, not to watch the results with the presidential candidate, but to interview members of his senior staff.

“The staff then invited the hosts to get Mr. Trump’s reaction to the victory. That discussion lasted less than five minutes. Other networks were allowed interviews as well,” a spokesman for MSNBC told TheBlaze.

A spokeswoman said that CNN is standing behind Byers’ reporting.
