The water may have been freezing and the task daunting, but that did not stop four men from heroically rescuing a woman and her baby from an icy Amsterdam canal.
Earlier this week, a woman crashed into the canal after she tried to park in a space nearby the Schinkel River, but when she started to leave her vehicle, the car continued rolling forward, according to 7 News.
Frantically trying to free her small baby, who was strapped in the backseat, it was not long before the vehicle was nearly totally submerged into the water. It was at that moment that four men passing by decided to help.
Without skipping beat, four men — one by one — shed their winter coats and dove into the canal.
The heroic men used a hammer and rocks to carefully break into the car and free the frantic pair, and it wasn’t long before mother and baby were united, once again, along the river’s edge.
The four rescuers were hailed as heroes by local news outlets. One local media organization tweeted an image of the men along with the text, “Here they are: the four men who rescued the mother and child out of the water.”

Prior to the daring escapade, none of the four men knew each other, though they posed for several photos together that day.
Ruben Abrahams, one of the rescuers, told a local reporter that jumping in after the mother and child was “quite a natural reaction.”
“I think every healthy young man would have jumped into the water,” he added.
The mother and her baby were taken to a nearby hospital and are recovering well, 7 News reported.
