The car was rented from another location and dropped off early Sunday morning, according to officials. A mechanic performing routine, post-rental maintenance on the vehicle noticed the suspicious device underneath the car and the authorities were called.

While no flights were cancelled or delayed, the rental car center was shutdown for hours.

As the bomb squad neutralized and removed the device, customers returning cars were sent to an alternate location. However, travelers arriving at the airport, expecting to pick up a rental were forced to wait over four hours until the “all clear” was given.

The FBI and ATF are reportedly investigating the incident, looking to find the person who originally rented the car and who returned it to the Albuquerque airport on Sunday.
