A pastor who led a prayer at a Ted Cruz rally on Saturday was shot in his Idaho church’s parking lot on Sunday afternoon.
Coeur d’Alene police are searching for a suspect who shot Pastor Tim Remington just before 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot at the Alter Church on the corner of 9th and Best, according to KREM-TV. Remington, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was transported directly to the Kootenai Medical Center, where his present exact medical condition remains unknown.
One of Remington’s family members told police that Remington, who has been the head pastor at the Alter Church for more than a decade, had just prayed at Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential rally the day before at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, KREM reported, adding that Remington was shot four times in the back while walking to his car that afternoon. The family member said that Remington was alive and talking to EMS workers while being transported to the hospital.

“We just want to be here for everyone in our congregation. Be here for our pastor. We are going to go to the hospital and wait for the word to make sure he is okay,” one church member said, KREM reported. “He opens his home to people. He takes them in and lets them live in his home. All the people society has turned their backs on, he reaches out to them.”
The Coeur d’Alene police reported that the suspect had fled the scene before their arrival, and the suspect’s whereabouts are not yet known, although the Chief of Police told KHQ-TV that the suspect was seen driving a silver sedan at the time of the shooting. Witnesses also stated that the alleged shooter had attended the Alter Church’s services before waiting in his car for Remington to exit the church. An investigation is still ongoing.
