There may be a time when Americans could find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time — and confronted by an active shooter.

The Department of Homeland Security advises you should either run, hide or — as a last resort — fight the gunman.

For the Record reported on active-shooter defense training and spoke to instructor Ryan Hoover of Fit to Fight.  Hoover said that if you’re not armed and you have to neutralize a gunman, keep it simple.
