Russia Says Plane With 61 Aboard Crashes in Rostov-on-Don

UPDATE — 11:30 p.m. ET: Regional officials told RT that all 61 aboard were believed to have been killed:

A plane carrying about 60 passengers crashed early Saturday morning as it attempted to land at the airport in the port city of Rostov-on-Don, Russia’s Emergency Ministry said.

A statement from the ministry said Flight 981 was traveling to the city from Dubai.

Radar appeared to show that the FlyDubai plane circled the airport before trying to land.

Video posted online seemingly captured the ensuing explosion after the aircraft crashed.

FlyDubai said it was “investigating further details” and would provide an update when “more information is available.”

Boeing added on Twitter that it was aware of the reports coming out of Russia.
