Trump Asks if He Can ‘Press Charges’ Against Ex-Breitbart Reporter Because She Allegedly Touched Him First

Responding to the news that his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski had been charged with simple battery over an alleged incident with a former Breitbart reporter, Republican presidential contender Donald Trump fired back on Twitter today, asking if he could “press charges” against the journalist.

“Victory press conference was over,” Trump tweeted, along with zoomed-in image of ex-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields from the original incident. “Why is she allowed to grab me and shout questions? Can I press charges?”

In an even more zoomed-in shot, Trump tweeted images that appear to show Fields brushing up against Trump as she asks him a question.

“Why is this reporter touching me as I leave news conference?” Trump tweeted. “What is in her hand??”

Previously, Lewandowski had called Fields “delusional” for saying that he touched her, a position the Trump campaign supported. Now, however, Trump is seemingly using footage of the incident to argue that Fields was a threat.

In an earlier posting today, Trump described Lewandowski as a “decent man” and said video evidence from the altercation shows that there is “nothing there.”

However, the surveillance video appears to corroborate Fields’ story that she was grabbed by Lewandowski.

The video was released by the police department and purports to show Lewandowski reaching out and pulling Fields back from Trump. The campaign manager reportedly turned himself in Tuesday morning and has been issued a notice to appear in court on May 4.

Despite the Jupiter Police Department’s account, the Trump camp contended that Lewandowski was never “arrested” and instead said he was given a court notice.

“Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge,” spokeswoman Hope Hicks said. “He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated.”

See the original “arrest report” here.

During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper Tuesday night, Trump speculated that the apparent pen that Fields was carrying could have been “a little bomb.”
