Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) engaged in a debate with supporters of his rival Donald Trump outside a campaign stop in Indiana Monday.
“You are the problem,” a man holding a Trump sign told Cruz.
“Can I ask you something?” Cruz responded.
“No,” the man replied, adding, “Where’s your Goldman Sachs jacket at, we know your wife works there.”
Cruz told the man that his campaign has been supported by “1.3 million contributions from all over the country,” with an average contribution of $60.
Cruz also told the man that Trump has a history of hiring illegal immigrants.
“Donald Trump is deceiving you,” Cruz said. “He is playing you for a chump.”
Indiana’s presidential primary will take place Tuesday. Indiana is considered by many to be a must-win state for the Cruz campaign if he his to prevent Trump from receiving the 1,237 delegates necessary to win the Republican nomination.
Cruz, however, has vowed to continue his campaign even if he doesn’t win Indiana.
