25 Activists Arrested After Protesting Conservative Koch Bros. Meeting

Twenty-five people were arrested for trespassing Sunday as hundreds protested outside a strategy session of conservative political donors hosted by brothers David and Charles Koch at a resort near Palm Springs, CA authorities said.

The demonstration had been arranged with authorities, but some protesters crossed the street to the entrance of the Rancho Las Palmas Resort where they were met by deputies in riot gear, Riverside County Deputy Melissa Nieburger said. They were arrested without a struggle, booked at Indio Jail, and released.

According to Reuters, the rally was organized by the liberal group Common Cause, an anti-conservative group that charges the Koch brothers of influencing politics with their money. It was also sponsored by the leftist group  Code Pink, whose founder Jodie Evans was reportedly one of those arrested. Trumpeting the message of those groups, rally speakers accused the brothers of being “anarchists with a checkbook”:

George Soros and a branch of the Tides Foundation are listed as donors in the most recent annual report listed on Common Cause’s website.

In addition to the rally, the group also held a pre-protest panel discussion that included Van Jones. After the event, the group posted a quote from Jones on its Facebook page:

25 Activists Arrested After Protesting Conservative Koch Bros. Meeting

Sunday was the second day of the four-day, invitation-only conclave of about 200 wealthy conservative political activists. It was organized by the Koch brothers, whose Wichita, KS-based Koch Industries is one of the nation’s largest privately held companies.

The brothers have held similar conclaves in the Palm Springs area and Aspen, Colo., for years, but this conference was met with increased scrutiny. Liberal groups have targeted the brothers for criticism because of their funding of the fight against global warming laws and their financial support of Americans for Prosperity, an organization that has worked closely with tea party groups. It was the environmental aspect of the brothers’ work that brought out Greenpeace activists:

The group did not say who was attending the conference, and reporters were not allowed inside the resort, but the strategy sessions in years past have included radio talkers Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, and Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, according to The New York Times.

Organizer Samantha Corbin told City News Service the protesters were there to “voice opposition to the Koches’ funding of climate denial groups, far-right political candidates and anti-health care reform efforts.”

Protesters carried signs reading “Troops Home Now,“ ”Medicare for All“ and ”Tea Party Founded and Funded By The Kochs.”

Several dozen people dressed in hazardous materials suits and held police tape and a banner that read “Quarantine the Kochs.”

The protest, which had nearly 1,000 people at its peak, lasted about two hours. And according to other video of the event posted on YouTube, at least one protest admitted to being a socialist while another called for “revolution now!” like is currently happening in Egypt:

Koch Industries defended the gathering as an exercise in democratic assembly and service to the country.

“This conference brings together some of our nation’s most successful business leaders, job creators and those who make it a priority to support their communities and our country in significant ways,” said Nancy Pfotenhauer, a spokeswoman for the company.

“We respect all Americans’ rights to free speech and to peaceably assemble,” she said in a written statement. “It is disappointing that some members of the group protesting today made the choice to not be respectful of the community or of our right to meet.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Just curious, maybe the MSM can ask someone publicly: Why is it ok for Soros, RFK, the Hollywood social democrats and others to use their money and the right to assemble to aggressively push for causes that they believe in, but NOT ok for the Koch brothers or others who happen to support conservative causes to do the same? Aren’t they the ones crying for social justice, everyone having an equal piece of the pie, leveling the playing field, having everyone have a voice, etc? We have a president on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade who states how the government “doesn’t have the right to involve itself in such private family matters”. But the same government believes it has the right to tell us what light bulb we are required to use in the bedroom where these children are conceived, and how may, if any, animal crackers we are allowed to give this child once it’s born? Anyone seeing any faulty logic? These progressive “brilliant minds” who claim they know better how to direct our lives all need a basic undergraduate course in logic.

This. It’s as though they are either unaware of their deafening hypocrisy… or think that it’s a virtue. I think that they’re aware, it’s just that the idea of “equal application” of anything – standards, the law, science, “civility,” et. al. – is little more than a pesky inconvenience of which they will eventually be rid. They are always right; they KNOW this, and will dress their ideas in as many layers of Emperor’s clothing until the proletariat sees it, whether through the submission of their own ability to reason, or at the end of a bayonet.

“These progressive `brilliant minds` who claim they know better how to direct our lives all need a basic undergraduate course in logic.”

Considering how much the left cares for the scientific method (choosing instead to formulate a conclusion that pleases them, and manufacture the “proof” leading thereto), I’m sure it would be rejected outright. After all, the left couldn’t argue at all if it did not move the goal post, attack straw men, advance ad hominem “arguments” and false dichotomies, and equivocate, equivocate, equivocate.

They don’t want a level playing field when it comes to political donations, why do you think BHO scolded the Supreme Court Justices a year ago at the SOTU. BHO is trying to raise 1 Billion for 2012, but they want to leave our side broke. Another thing these protestors don’t realize is when they get their “Change” they will be some of the first to go hungry and Spooky Dude will be somewhere counting his money.

Why are they even wasting time showing these idiots. I’m wondering if showing the 2nd video with the greenpeace hot air baloon (which I think is very appropriate for them since they are full of nothing but hot air) is promoting greenpeace since there was no reason to even acknowledge that. These jokers thrive on getting attention from either side. The best way to handle them is to not give them even one second of attention. That way they will fade away into the nothingness that they are.

Alternate shell types between buckshot and slugs. P.S.: That generator running, if the power goes out, will work like a magnet for those who would do you harm. Good luck.

Remember back in the old days when community activists and rabblerousers had to have jobs that kept them off the streets for most of the day?

Apparently now, thanks to billions in stimulus funds handed out to these fascist groups, we are treated to 24 hour a day protests paid for with our tax dollars.

America, your bowel movement is complete. Now stand up, turn around, and look in the bowl to see what a steady diet of debt and liberal propaganda has given you.

      @FIRSTLAST

Yeah, you probably missed something. Turn off the MSM.

If you try to figure out the tax-paid protester issue yourself though, don’t try to sort out the myriad convoluted ways stimulus funds (i.e. tax dollars) are funneled to community organizations, liberal non-profits, left-wing think tanks, foundations operated by socialist elites, make-work university research projects, etc. The information is intentionally made hard to get.

Instead, set your eye on a few random anti-capitalist protesters and find out (either by asking them or asking around) how it is that they can spend days and weeks protesting. Ask them what is their source of income. You’ll have to ask several times as the first 3 or 4 answers will be lies or obfuscations. Once you know the source of their funds (or major source of their income), follow the trail back to find where the source got most of its funding for the last 2 years.

I think you might learn something that will make you look at the withholding on your next paycheck a little more skeptically.

      Good luck with your endeavors!

Where do they think their parents get their money, same tree? Do they get paid to demonstrate (fill out the proper IRS income forms?), who gets them out of jail (income reported to IRS?). If I saw any of my three children, which would never happen, demonstrating for socialism, the checkbook would slam shut so fast their heads would spin; and if they were arrested, too bad, enjoy yourself and don’t bend down. All private money, individual or corporate, should be out of politics completely. Instead, elections for PUBLIC office should be funded by PUBLIC money from the government with equal amounts going to those who run. Only then can we have a government that is truly elected by the people, for the people.

Do they know th Koch Brothers manufacture filtration for air/gas petrochemical & industrial industries? These products they sell eliminate millions of deadly chemicals from the air & water helping conserve their principle cause. It’s more about these guys being Conservative & rich. If 1 person at any of these protests knew how much nastier the enviroment would have been had Koch not invented some of the products they sell, they might look at these guys in a bit of a different light. Maybe we should peacefully protest outside some of their meetings when Ms. Piven or Mr. Soros stick their heads out of the shadows for appearances. We would be met with violence & people asking why we are picking of the elderly. We need to make some peaceful prtests at their meetings.

Amazing how it is so bad for Conservatives to fund political causes, but somehow Liberals end up with nearly the same amount of money sprinkled like fairydust into their coffers. Please notice and point out to others that these people do exist. Many follow the left because their slogans sound so benign and peaceful but would not support what these people are calling for. They need to see that their warm and fuzzy agenda will never happen because these thugs will grab the power and run.

And lets not forget the change in our culture since Progressives got their fangs into it nearly 100 years ago.

“We respect all Americans’ rights to free speech and to peaceably assemble, it is disappointing that some members of the group protesting today made the choice to not be respectful of the community or of our right to meet.”

Way to go Koch Industries! It is awesome to see them defending their protester’s rights as well as their own…and the best part is it will aslo infuriate the liberials. They protest, 25 protesters are arrested, and the group they are protesting defends the right of the protester’s to peaceably assemble. Who looks like they came ahead in this story? Once again, amazing job Koch Industries!

I would like to point out that the Koch Brothers have a privately held corporation. Their meetings, I believe, do not have to be open to the public. FOI laws only pertain to public institutions and municipalities, and this organization, to the best of my knowledge is neither. Just like Chase Bank, General Electric or Kodak. Who they invite and what they discuss is their private business, just like what Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition is his private business. So, no, I don’t believe there is one iota of impropriety there.

As for who the invited guests fund, well, it is their money, isn’t it? Just like the Democratic big rollers, like Bill Gates, George Soros and Bill Ayers are free to donate their money to causes they support, or are you saying that no one should be allowed to give donations to any causes?

As for the unions, well, I’d be very, very surprised to find out that they were giving to the SEIU or the AFL-CIO. These guests are far more interested in creating jobs than supporting unions that choke the lifeblood out of the taxpayer. Just look at Detroit. Bustling, energetic, and progressive, right?? That’s not what I see. I see a dying city that is fading into the night.

      But each to his own.

I am awed by the fact that liberals can say or do anything they want to, can insult anyone at any time without having to adhere to the element of truth, and consider the use violence or the threat of it to promote their point as an inherent right. But, as a conservative I can in no way exercise free speach on any subject they disagree with. Wow! What a concept!

      I didn’t say a word about purchasing elections. That‘s ACORN’s terrority.

I do believe that the Koch brothers should have the right to support the political organizations that they wish to, just like the Tides Foundation does.

By any chance, are you referring to the upcoming election in Chicago where Rahm Emanuel will be on the ticket and probably a shoo-in? Or the recent upheaval in Connecticut where the governor’s race was literally too close to call until the largest city in the State screwed up and ran out of ballots? That debacle ended up with the Democratic candidate being elected as governor. What about the last Presidential election when those who had died managed to vote? And yes, I am against “purchased” elections.

I wouldn’t suggest a panic, but a reasonable supply of water and foods that can be stored without refrigeration would be a good thing to have on hand.
