29-Year-Old U.S. Olympian Gaining National Attention Because…She’s Committed to Virginity

Considering all of the negative influences in television, film, music and sports, it‘s rare to find a positive role model who’s willing to boldly go against societal norms. Enter Lolo Jones, the 29-year-old track and field star who’s been getting a fair bit of press since tweeting earlier this year that she’s a virgin.
MyNorthwest.com has more information about this fascinating athlete, whose conservative views on sex are rooted in her Christian worldview:
At 29-years-old, Lolo Jones has already had a life of overcoming challenges. She’s a multiracial, devout Christian who grew up “dirt poor” with her mom and four siblings in Iowa.
Jones, who competes in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, described living in the basement of a Salvation Army during the ESPN documentary about her life that was broadcast this week.
“I definitely would say, by sixth grade, I was a professional shoplifter and not because I wanted to. I’m not going out to shoplift earrings or clothes or shoes like the average teenager,” Jones says. “I was shoplifting frozen dinners at a grocery store. I could shoplift four frozen dinners, easily.”
Now she’s easily one of the biggest track and field stars in America. She has a sculpted, perfect body, and on top of everything else, she’s opened up about her ongoing struggles to remain a virgin.
ABC’s “The View” took this issue on yesterday as well and discussed a variety of themes surrounding both Jones and the challenges associated with adult virginity:
In recent interviews, the athlete has made known her wish to give her virginity to her future husband. The quest, of course, hasn’t been an easy one.
“It’s just something, a gift that I want to give to my husband. But please understand this journey has been hard. If there’s virgins out there, I just want to let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,“ she said this week on ”Today.“ ”Harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”
And, as can be imagined, there have been plenty of temptations along the way.
“I’ve been tempted. I’ve had guys tell me, they’re like, ‘Hey you know if you have sex it will help you run faster,’” Jones said, going on to give her response: “If you marry me, then yeah.”
Jones has continued to share her experience and her pledge with her fans on Twitter. Donald Trump even weighed in on her virginity:
The track and field star first made her very personal announcement on Twitter earlier this year and she has continued to be open and honest about her struggles. Jones competed in the 2008 Olympics and will also be vying for a win in the 2012 London games.

We need more stories like this so that the rest of us aren’t meant to feel like outcasts because of our choices. I just learned of a family in which a man decided to live w/ an 11 yr old girl. that was 15 years ago & now the girl has 6 kids, is an alcoholic & an abusive mother who, thank God, has recently lost custody of the children but, they‘ve been given to grandma who didn’t protect her 11 yr old daughter in the 1st place. that’s the sort of future Lolo Jones probably would have had w/o her faith, the grace of God & determination. at 29, she sends a message of hope to kids in similar situations. she also teaches our society that genuine success comes not only through hard work but through sacrifice & resisting temptation. Lolo Jones is beautiful. I think the nude photo (even though it showed nothing) was ill-advised because it’s titillating & encourages the female creatures like those on the View to mock her & dismiss her virginity. one error is no big deal. she’s still worth emulating.

Most guys in HS didn’t want to wait, they moved on to someone who would give them what they wanted. The good guys stick around but then they all want to marry you, lol.
Anyway, I commend her. Kids need a positive roll model these days. And I agree with Elizabeth, this actually shows that she is MORE in control of her body and her sexuality then someone who feels the need to sleep with every Tom, Dick and Harry and has to use drugs to prevent pregnancy or abortion to end one. It really says something about our culture that this is considered strange behavior, lol.

When the Jewish ethicists wrote a moral code into the Bible thousands of years ago, people got married at age 14. They never expected a woman to wait until she is nearly 30 to pop her cherry. That is superstitious nonsense. It is time to rewrite our ethics in a way that emphasizes chastity, just not to this extreme.

It’s a choice. You may not value sex as something that is intimate and very very personal interaction between two individuals, but it is. Its a connection that is formed that is unique and relative to everything you do in life, based in the fact that it can effect the way you and others view a relationship. She has had struggles and victories and she isn‘t whining and sitting in a filthy tent in some city park saying its somebody else’s fault. She is not a prude, she is a moralist that lives what she feels and isn’t imposing her will on others.

I have 3 daughters and they have someone to look up to that didn’t get famous for doing nothing or porn. If you were to get some one to breed with you who would you want your kids to emulate? Think about that on your next quest, D&D game, or whatever it is you do while the rest of us contribute to society. Better yet ask your mother who her role model was the next time you are shaving her legs in the shower.
