3 Americans May Be Infected With Potentially-Fatal, Mystery E-coli Strain

3 Americans May Be Infected With Potentially Fatal, Mystery E coli Strain A deadly “mystery strain” of e-coli has already killed 18 people overseas. Now, health officials in the United States say that three Americans may be infected with the same bacteria. AFP reports that these individuals recently traveled to Germany, where the infection has been running rampant:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was awaiting blood samples before any confirmation could be made, spokesman Tom Skinner told AFP. The suspected cases were not fatal.

Earlier, Britain said seven people there had been infected with the bacteria, including three British nationals who had recently traveled to Germany and four German nationals.

Germany does not know where the bacteria originated, though the government has discouraged citizens from consuming raw vegetables. In the past month, alone, 2,000 people have fallen ill.

Treating e-coli is tricky, as studies have shown that antibiotics often cause more complications and, thus, harm infected patients. As a result, doctors in the U.S. and Europe do not use medications to treat the bacteria. CNN has more:

“It seems that antibiotics make the bacteria explode, and the toxins inside get spit out and wreak havoc,” said Dr. Buddy Creech, assistant professor of pediatric infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

There’s no other treatment to fight the bacteria.

“All we can do is give patients pain medications or put them on ventilators or dialysis if they need it,” said Dr. Robert Steele, a pediatrician at St. John’s Children’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. “We can’t treat the actual problem. We just wait for the body to heal itself.”

Watch a video report from Reuters that explains why the e-coli outbreak has caused Russia to ban vegetables from the EU:

I am wondering why this has been going on for nearly a month, over 2000 people have gotten ill and they do not have any answers. I hate to always think something is up with everything that goes on. I find it hard to believe that they have not been able to isolate the bad food. When there was a problem with eggs, peanut butter and strawberries over the past several years in the US, the source was identified within a week. Now there is a new strain of mutant bacteria and their advice is to not eat any raw vegetable.

I’m sure there are some natural antibacterials that would work better than “antibiotics” anyway. Onions, garlic, turmeric, etc.

E coli is an intestinal organism. One can imagine how it is spread…duh… Wash your hands. Wash your veggies well, and cook well. Only those with poor hygiene pass this, not through kissing, at least one can hope.

With our new world, it may be here to stay, kind of like bedbugs, only lethal.

We may not know where this e-coli bacteria came from, but we do know where most of the hate in America came from, the anarchist that refuse to live among each other with diverse opinions in One Nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.” I am not spreading hate here bc I don‘t need the government telling me what I should or shouldn’t eat. I purchase my own food, cook it, and eat it, so I will decide what, when, and how much I eat, not Michele. It is really stupid for the government to waste that much money telling us what we already know, but most aren’t going to do anyway, when we could be finding answers to where these bacteria are coming from and how to treat them with that 2 million Hate comes within the individual and I hate no one, but hate their ways so if you think you hate me bc I have my own opinion then you must be the one spreading the hate. If you ever need a hand to help make America better, let me know bc I am all for it. God Bless.

Superbugs are leaps and bounds ahead of the medical/pharmacutical industry. Humans will be beaten by these bugs unless we take care.

Bonnie, your immune system needs to be exposed to germs so it can develop the ability to withstand them. That is why they use the flu to make the vaccination for the flu. Go ahead and get dirty, I‘m not saying you should not wash your hands after using the restroom or that you should prepare your salad in old chicken blood that you didn’t wash off the counter, but too much sterilization leads to getting sicker, not healthier.

Not likely I will admit, yet it could happen like with the flu epidemics of the ending of WW1 era.

Someone starving to death is a sight or fate not wished on anyone; so we do need to pray and hope, for the times are now going to get even harder than before.

Snow, now that most people are so germaphobic that they carry around hand sanitizer, bleach their countertops and generally disinfect every thing they might possibly come in contact with some day, the bugs have a much easier time getting in. Our immune systems are like our brains, they learn. When we sanitize everything we touch our immune systems don’t get a chance to get stronger. People get sick alot easier because of the massive effort to never be sick. I grew up in the country and didn’t have very clean living conditions, I almost never get sick and can eat stuff you wouldn’t believe and not get ill. I’m not surprised that people are being killed by all theas “super bugs”. Also the media tries its best to cause a panic. Look at the swine flue, it killed far fewer people then the regular flue strains that go around every year, yet the hype was tremendous.

Look people, the United States has to save costs and the place to start is these unnecessary Nanny-state agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control (CSC). The first step toward restoring financial responsibility in our nation, is getting rid of this nonsense that the government has to take care of us, and restore our freedom to the way it was 100 years ago.

All you RINOs are so scared of what would happen were it not for the excessive regulations the FDA imposes and the absurd monitoring of some insignificant bacterium that has caused, what?, a few deaths? Corporate America is better able to handle these minor problems more than a bloated government. They know that if they sell food that kills people eventually you’ll stop buying food from those corporations and the foods the sell, which is clearly marked on the label.

Stop the nanny state! These regulations stifle American profitability and the monitoring of the spread of disease is, given the cost to our children and grandchildren, is worthless. I will not give up my freedom to government bureaucrats.
