Protestors Arrested, Kicked Out for Disruption at Rep. Paul Ryan Townhall Meeting

Yesterday U.S. Congressmen Paul Ryan was greeted by what’s now considered the norm at Wisconsin town hall events: Protesters. Extending outside the Milwaukee, Wisc., meeting, protesting carried over into the banquet hall as well, resulting in three arrests and five people being kicked out of the event.
Ryan later told the local NBC affiliate (via Politico) that “protests are a thing that are going to be here to stay, I think.” Watch the Fox News video for more on this:
Attendees were asked to show respect for the congressmen and to hold their questions until the end of the banquet. For the first thirty minutes of the hour-long meeting, this wasn’t the case. Politic USA has more:
The protesters got involved when Rep. Ryan tried to claim that our job crisis is directly related to our debt crisis. One person stood up and asked, “Our debt is out of control because of the tax cuts you’re giving…Our unemployment in 2003 was 6.2% before the tax cuts went through. Now our unemployment rate is 9.1%. What are you doing to create jobs, Congressman?”
This lady was shown the door. She was soon followed by another gentleman. Another woman stood up while Ryan was speaking and said, “You won’t talk to us. How can we give our opinions when you refuse to talk to us?” I think you can probably guess what happened to her. When someone stood up in the back and asked, “Where are the jobs, Ryan?” He mentioned corporations, and was escorted out.
An older man got angry when Ryan mentioned entitlement programs, and said that he paid into unemployment, Medicare, and Social Security for 50 years, and got himself kicked out.
Though the protesters were a fixture at the event, Ryan was also met with support both inside and outside the banquet hall. After one woman, who ended up being escorted out of the hall, asked Ryan, “How are you going to put food on my table and help me support my family?,“ a Ryan supporter told her to ”Get a job.”
While some would scoff at the questioner, while others may dislike the way in which the man answered her, the woman’s point — whether right or wrong — is that Ryan, in her view, is not addressing unemployed in his district. Contrary to these protestors’ statements, Ryan claims he has made himself available to talk about job creation.
The three who were arrested are in custody because they resisted police attempts to get them to leave. One woman, as seen in the below video says, “I’m being arrested because I spoke out against my congressman.” Watch the Milwaukee Fox affiliate WITI-TV (via Politico) report here:

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 1:59pmAmped up rhetoric, displays of anger, disengenious arguments, talking points without facts are what they think will hold their base together. The progessive base is a cobbled together coalition that neither respects each other nor trusts each other. They have a Scream not a Dream of what this country should be. The path to unity, in their view, is to blame and lable the other. If we stand, they haven’t a chance.

Look at the questions and the talking points…”tax cuts caused the debt…”. “What are you going to do get food on my table?”, “Corporations”…..etc, it’s all lefty talking points. I particularly like the “tax cuts after 2003 now unemployment is 9.2%” idiocy. As if the mortgage meltdown and Obama’s policies never happened. They deserve to get arrested, they’re not there to exercise free speech, they are there to purely disrupt and cause an incident. Typical leftist tactics.

It’s a common problem with right-wingers. They don’t understand nuance.

There is an obvious difference in energy, motivation and dynamics between the elderly and the tea party members we saw at town halls in 2009 and 2010 and the clear unionist/leftist talking points and tactics on display in Wisconsin. The location should be giving it away. Wisconsin has been the hub of union money and activity for months now. They have made no mystery of the fact that they’re active and agitated in that state. Look at the nature of the “questions”. “Tax cuts caused unemployment rate”, “Who‘s going to put food on my family’s table?”. It’s clear these are union agitators not concerned citizens about the well being of Wisconsin and the country. Tax cuts caused the unemployment rate? As if the mortgage meltdown, and financials crisis and Obama’s policies played no role? Keep bleating Das Kapital Quotin’…

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 3:08pm@AvengerK Actually the point was that the tax cuts, two by the way right after Bush decided to start wars which cost $100s of billions, did not lead to job creation. Let’s keep in mind when this recession started and even a renewal of the tax cuts have not had a positive effect. The economic problems are more long term and much more complex. The two key drivers that are holding the economy back is stagnation in real wages and concentration of wealth. Both of which are not solved by the 15 sec. sound bites and slogans coming from both sides of the isle.

There is a time and place for everything but you tea partiers think that it is OK for you to disrupt a meeting or speech but that it is not OK if it is done by a Democrat or liberal. You must get your economic information from Krugman. How do you justify Obama deficit spending in 4 years what Bush did in 8? Obama is deficit spending 3 times what Bush did. I also believe when Bush left office unemployment was around 7% and it hasn’t been under 9% since Obama. I also believe Gas was under $2.00 a gallon. Yup I just found it, on Jan 19th 2009 gas was $1.85 a gallon. Let’s look at a little more history that the left hates. When Bush took office, gas was $1.46, when he left $1.85. That’s less than a 40 cent rise in 8 years. When Obama took office gas was $1.85, not quite 3 years later it’s $3.86. That’s a $2.00 rise. Thanks alot you liberal economic midgets!

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 6:05pmNow let’s talk about those Bush tax cuts JROOK…
Report Post »The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 and the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 broadly lowered income, capital gains, dividends, and estate taxes.
According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Bush tax cuts actually shifted the total tax burden farther toward the rich so that in 2000-2004, total income tax paid by the top 40% of income-earners grew by 4.6% to 99.1% of the total. Wealth concentration you said earlier?
In fact, the Bush tax cuts actually increased government revenue. So what was the effect of the Bush tax cuts? The data reveals that tax revenues in 2006 were actually $47 billion above the levels projected by the Congressional budget office before the 2003 tax cuts. Clearly, tax rates were beyond the point of equilibrium.
The Bush tax cuts were intended to increase market incentives to work, save, and invest and thus create jobs and increase economic growth. An analysis of the six quarters before and after the 2003 tax cuts shows that this is exactly what happened.
Economic Performance Before and After 2003:
Jobs Gain/Loss Before 2003 Tax cuts? -267K
Jobs Gain/Loss AFTER 2003? +307K
The data is against you JROOK. The mortgage meldown came about as a result of liberal interference and for “affordable housing”. This lowered lending standards and led to predatory lending. People who never should have got loans got them.

Been to ones in which special people were the only ones allowed to ask a question during the question and answer time and they were hand picked to make sure there were no difficult or challenging questions asked, like when I was on Dem. “phone” town-halls.. If I’m not mistaken, free speech also includes “without fear or intimidation”. I’ve never seen such excuses for supposid “debate” or “conversation” in which “free speech” means you shut up and just listen to me, and common courtesty doesn’t come into play. There’s heated discussions…but not this drown out and refuse to listen or take turns in a civil manner. Crude prices collapsed by more than $100 per barrel between July of 2008 and Jan of 2009 when Obama took office. Through no fault of either leader crude prices vary wildly and create the price of gasoline. You probably believe in the Bachmann story of $2 gas under her presidency…not without a ton of help from world markets she doesn‘t and don’t think drilling in 2012 will bring down prices immediately. It‘s a common problem that Progressives can’t understand the English language. We listen to people’s words, and then check that their behavior matches.
If you don’t know how to communicate clearly, then educate yourself. We have to hold people to the words that come out of their mouth, or you’d say we took them out of context.
When we do hold them to their own words, you complain we don’t understand “nuance”, as if use of that word makes you smarter than us. Oops, I forgot you’re an elitist, aren’t you? You’re smarter and better than your neighbors. That’s why you chose the nickname you chose, isn’t it?

I’ll believe both sides are serious when they cut spending equally across the board to balance the current budget. That means everything including defense and most certainly tax breaks and credits for companies. As far as the longer term deficit, it represents past spending, $10 trillion of which occurred under Reagan, Bush St. and Bush Jr. It must be addressed by a tax dedicated to paying it down. If we do that the positive impact to the economy will be significant. Check the record. Reagan jump started the economy by incurring unprecedented deficits to dramatically increase defense spending.

I know it’s ignoring your point, but they‘re screaming at him because he’s a Wisconsin representative. His constituency is suffering, and they hold their leaders responsible. As Wisconsin elected Paul Ryan, it makes perfect sense to hold him responsible when things aren’t changed.
TL;DR

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 2:02pmThat’s fine. Then I just want my money back. I was FORCED to pay in to social security for nearly 25 years so far. Just give me all of MY money back at 3% interest. (the interest rate the gov currently gives the banks to do nothing) I don’t want taken care of by gov. Don’t need it. But if you don’t pay taxes, you go to jail. If you don’t pay your child support… jail. You bounce checks… jail. So, I do not want cutbacks. You either provide exactly that for which you FORCED me to pay or give the money back. If we make promises to the people then change them, there is no honor or trust in that. Admit you failed and repay the money +3%. It would be cheaper than continuing this sham and would build trust.

If you paid into the system you should get it back, but lowlife morons like this lady are literally stealing your money. This is no different than someone walking into a store and stealing then making the excuse “they have more than they need”. I think most people realize that SS served two purposes:
1) A way to keep track of most Americans (tagged with a number)
2) A tax in disguise
That’s it… it sucks because I could have an extra $250,000 – $300,000 if I were able to KEEP my money and invest it. However, now it is pissed away by the BIG government that these radicals love so much. That would have taken care of college, weddings, a vacation home, medical bills, etc!!! This is why government needs to shrink back to the confines of the Constitution.

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 2:50pmI think it takes a lot of nerve to even ask that question like she did. That’s the problem with this country today.
The government has been handing out entitlements for so long that the generations of people who grew up on them actually think they deserve them and have no pride, dignity or self reliance.
These were some of the character traits that helped forge this nation into the industrial power that it use to be.
I grew up around it but thankfully my father, who hated entitlement programs, would remind us that in this world if you don’t work, you don’t eat…and I am glad he did.
Sadly enough, those days are but a wisp of a breeze.

True Patriots do not make poor choices,
Do not belittle the founders and their sacrifice that honored
and swore sole allegiance to “{We The People,”
They lived their lives as Christian servants to God, The FOUNDERS, believed that they were doing what is right, what God wanted, not to be protected by God.
NOT… NEVER…the stating theological impression as “God is on our side.”
In their venerable purpose, they were mere subjects of God’s word, carrying out his orders.
It was an honor to serve in the Continental Congress,, not a social right
To label me as “no Patriot, ” proves your discouse in the current situation. Better known as ARROGANT and MYOPIC,
Lost and perhaps anarchist.
We The People will prevail.

I really can’t understand what you are saying so I will guess in response. Patriots do not make poor choices? I suggest you read about Thomas Paine and the French Revolution. Read about George Washington’s life, Ben Franklin. I have no idea what you mean by belittling them. I want the Republic they created.
I do not understand what you are trying to say about God and assessing your patriotism. The idea that I can’t is neither Biblical(we are told we are to judge) nor sound. (not being allowed to question patriotism is a liberal/fascist idea)
I am far from an anarchist. However your views on guns are fascist.

Posted on September 7, 2011 at 1:45pmThe one thing I liked about Paul Ryan previously is that unlike the rest of the GOP, he was willing to put a plan on the table and take the criticism (from both sides) for it. It wasn’t a particularly good plan (as its projections included ridiculous numbers that estimated 0% unemployment in the coming years), but it was a lot more than the soundbites coming from most politicians who would rather score political points than address issues.
Since then I’ve really heard little. I‘m wondering if he’s talking numbers now or just talking game. I hope it’s the previous, not the latter. Either way, these protesters were rude and not helping at all. People are upset at all our leaders right now, and the fact is, Paul Ryan‘s Congress hasn’t helped things get better yet. But there’s no way protests like this will change that.

I read posts on very liberal websites and most people are awake and aware of what is going on. For the first time the left is FRANTIC…you know why? Because very few people are buying their lies… that is why they are [now] slandering and demonizing to no end. Their downward spiral has begun and they will try everything to pull them out of this spiral…. beware, because they will reach new levels of the likes we have never experienced. Focus of God, continue to spread freedom and stand firm and we’ll be headed in the right direction sooner than we think. Don’t get me wrong, I do have many concerns but there is finally a glimmer of hope to grasp…
