PORTLAND, Ore. (The Blaze/AP) — Police arrested about 30 anti-Wall Street protesters in Portland early Sunday, dragging and carrying them to waiting vans, after they refused to leave a park in an affluent district.

The arrests followed clashes between police and protesters in Denver Saturday, where officers used pepper spray and rubber bullets to break up similar demonstrations after Occupy Denver participants tried to storm the Colorado Capitol building.

The Oregon arrests came after protesters from the Occupy Portland movement marched to the Pearl District, with some saying they viewed its residents as part of the wealthy demographic they’re protesting.

Dozens of them gathered in Jamison Square Saturday evening to defy a midnight curfew to vacate.

As police moved in around 2 a.m. most of the protesters backed off but a core group of 27-30 sat in a circle in the park and awaited arrest.

An Associated Press photographer said most of the protesters went limp and police carried or dragged them away. There was no violence during the arrests, which took about 90 minutes.

The protesters – all appearing to be in their 20s and 30s with many were wearing Halloween-style face paint – were handcuffed before they were place in police vans and driven off.

“We are the 99 percent,” one arrestee continued to chant.

The crowd of supporters thinned out around 3:30 a.m. as the last arrests were made.

Police said they arrested more than two dozen people on charges that included criminal trespassing, interfering with a police officer, and disorderly conduct.

The showdown came in the shadow of high-rise condos in the middle of the Pearl District, with some residents watching the events from their balconies.

At a meeting earlier in the evening, about 30 Occupy Portland protesters decided they would intentionally violate the curfew and face arrest.

Shortly after midnight police on horseback, on bicycles and on foot who had been at the perimeter of the park began moving closer to the group of protesters.

The demonstrators who had decided to risk arrest were seated on the ground. They were encircled by other protesters who walked around them chanting “Whose Park? Our Park!“ and ”Make No Arrests.”

Police eventually pushed the supporters of those being arrested to the park perimeter.

Saturday afternoon, dozens of protesters marched through downtown, across the Willamette River and back, some of them carrying sleeping bags, saying they planned to camp out in the Pearl District park.

Some protesters said they want to camp in the Pearl District because they view its residents as part of the wealthy demographic they’re protesting.

Police have allowed the demonstrators to remain in the adjacent Chapman and Lownsdale parks since Oct. 6 despite policies outlawing camping. The parks are surrounded by office buildings, mostly for the government.

But Mayor Sam Adams said last week he would not allow the demonstrators to take over any more parks. In a letter to demonstrators, Commissioner Randy Leonard said it would be inappropriate to expand the demonstration into a neighborhood park.

“We – the entire city council – are your friends… at present,” Leonard wrote. “However, our friendship and support are now being unreasonably tested by the decision to occupy Jamison Square.”

the ,so called, protests are becoming ridiculous. marching for a cause is noble and American…camping out in public places for weeks on end in order to disrupt the peace and freedom of others is not the American way. the crybabies should put this much effort into finding a job and paying bills, taxes etc… try paying for the entitlement big government that you desire. you will look at things quite differently after 10-20 years of WORKING and paying into the system. tax the poor!

This is the culmination of many years of planning. The police have known this kind of stuff was coming. This has been engineered at the highest levels (spiritual wickedness in high places) and well funded. They plan to win the election by making sure that there is no election. Couple this with whatever “man caused disaster” is coming down the pike, and “Voila!”, Martial Law, suspended constitution, and thus, no elections. Not exactly rocket science, ladies and gentlemen.

What is particularly humorous, at least to me, is that they want to try and pretend that this is some kind of spontaneous, world wide simultaneous, uprising.

If that’s the case, how is it that it took them about 3 years to realize the banks were bailed out? You mean to tell me they all sat there, for 3 years, didn’t even notice the bank bailouts, then woke up, again simultaneously across the globe, and said “oh, right, we better get out and protest that!”. And the other “complaint”, what is it, “greed”? For real? People all woke up, again at the same time across the world using the same slogans and calling themselves the same Occupy-Whatever name, and said “Wow, greed, didn’t realize that existed, better get out and protest”.

It’s rather embarrassing to me that there are people out there who are dumb enough to think everybody else is as idiotic as they are.

Unfortunately, the protestor have proven that some people ARE stupid beyond belief. They are proving it everyday. I doubt that there is enough brain power between all of them put together to know that it is getting cold. Besides, if anyone does start to get a thought through the emptiness in their heads telling them that they might be cold, they will just go out and rape a woman or two to warm up and then they can go back out and start chanting about how wall street and rich people are evil and don’t care about the innocents of the 99%ers. All I can say about that is that the actions on both sides clearly point out which side the most evil is situated. All we have to do is go out and speak to the rape victims and the other victims of the 99%, half a million dollar rich kids perverts.

Move in boot stomp them into a mud puddle and don’t worry about arrests. It’s hard to protest with your jaw wired shut.

The Blaze doesn’t have to clarify anything you asked them to do because the Tea Party never did anything like what you described . The difference between the two groups is so obvious and that if you removed the politics and the signage you would still see a huge difference as the Tea party is bathed, respectful, mature, well behaved and actually love this country. Your preferred group is poorly informed, not bathed, uncivilized , full of hate, brainwashed, and are being used by part of the one percent they claim to hate.

I’ve wondered what would happen if one of the so called 1% walked up and handed the keys to their house to one of these protesters. Here ya go buddy, it’s yours.
Do you think the protester would:
A = Put the place up for sale, allowing media full access to the entire process & pledge to distribute all the money equally
B = Move in & invite all their friends & family – conveniently forgetting that owning the place makes them part of the 1%
B = Move in & forget all their friends & family – thinking why should I support them
D = Move in and welcome other protesters to camp out on the lawn, trash the property, turn it into a health & sanitation hazard, set up soup kitchens (only for the protesters-don’t want to share their food & stuff with anyone else), run any number of gas guzzling air polluting generators, chant & drum all hours of the day & night and shout obscenities at the neighbors. Would they provide bus parking for shipped in comrades and invite the 1% celebrity supporters they know & love to give inspirational speeches before they zipped off in their private jets?
And how would they pay the bills? Electricity, Gas, Water etc. Pretty steep on a place like that.

Halloween should be a blast for these people, as crazy as they are. Keep our police officers safe. :)

So what are these fools flaunting the laws going to do when they need the law. Does their attitude allow anyone with a like mind to accost them and relieve them of any valuables they might have on their person? Will they then want the police to track down and arrest the felons?

If all of these protesters were to just vanish from the face of the earth- the country would recover more quickly. These are the leeches of society. I feel certain that most have paid no substantial taxes- yet their entitlement attitude has them convinced that they have the right to occupy (and trash)parks that they have contributed nothing to maintain. Worthless, weak, whiney spoiled brats. Their enabling ******* parents must be so proud!

right on the money MRUNNER. also this is what we get when we elect progressive liberals …. lawlessness. if we just enforce the current laws, they would be in warm beds at night, at home or in jail.

Isn‘t the Blaze great with their NAZI censors just waiting to put asterisks in place of words that they don’t like? Like the people reading these posts are children or something. Don’t you like being treated like children?

I wouldn’t mind so much- but what they replaced with asterisks was nothing vulgar. It was just the common contraction combining the terms Liberal and ******. Oh well, it is good to have a forum and I would rather they keep civil. Civility is something the left does not understand.

The claim that they represent the 99% is pretty laughable. They are at best 1-2% diehard socialists working on Obama’s reelection campaign. The media is once again intentionally asleep at the switch in support of Obama.

The rules should have been enforced from day 1. People, as a species, need clear guidelines. Once you begin blurring those lines confusion and chaos begins. The park closes at midnight and at midnight they should have went home.

At least they will get a bath and clean clothes in JAIL.

What I want to know is, why are law abiding citizens being denied access to public parks by those who have effectively stolen the parks from the public. This is taxation without representation. We are taxed so you can have exclusive access to a public park WE paid for?
YOU are allowed to break laws because you claim it is a political protest? So, how about others who just start claiming “political protest” when they get caught speeding? Robbing banks? Raping? Murdering?
Nope. Every city needs to review their laws and ordinances to assure they have strict dusk to dawn laws in place for their parks, as well as loitering / vagrancy laws. Then, every city needs to enforce those laws – at all times – for all people – regardless of their stated “purpose.” It doesn’t matter WHY you break a law. You break a law, you get arrested, tried, convicted, and punished. Even if you are “RIGHT” you can still be punished when you break laws.

Although it‘s fair to note that in nation’s whereby the people feel as if the laws only apply to those who can afford or have the influence to be protected by the law – those nations usually end up falling apart. And indicators of people knowing that they are not protected by the law begin appearing in their willingness to violate even the smallest of traffic laws. That’s why governments deserve the people they get and the people deserve the governments they get.

That’s why they can put up all the city-cams they want to, but they can not with-stand billions of people who know the laws don’t protect them.

I know what all the hypocrites are thinking. They are thinking, “Oh yeah, John the Baptist places people under the H2O, and they are Baptized.” No, that’s not it. John the Baptist baptizes people with the Waters that bring you down off the bad-wine – a bad way of life.

Oh well. The thing about almost all parks is that they usually close at sun-down. And that’s when law-abiding people leave.
