Rare New Year’s Eve Tornado Outbreak Kills at Least 6

(AP) — Tornadoes fueled by unusually warm winter air sliced through parts of the South and Midwest on Friday, killing at least four people, injuring dozens of others and knocking out power to thousands of homes and businesses.Rare New Years Eve Tornado Outbreak Kills at Least 6

Three people died in Cincinnati, a northwestern Arkansas hamlet of about 100 residents located three miles from the Oklahoma border, and a sheriff’s dispatcher said there were “lots of injuries” after the twister touched down just before sunrise. Tornadoes were also reported near St. Louis, and one person was reported dead in a violent storm in south-central Missouri.

“It sucked me out of my house and carried me across the road and dropped me,” Chris Sizemore of Cincinnati said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I was Superman for a while. … You’re just free-floating through the air. Trees are knocking you and smacking you down.”

Sizemore said he tried to crawl under his bed and cling to the carpet as the winds shook a pecan tree standing over the house.

“I thought that pecan was coming through the upstairs,” he said, nursing cuts, scrapes and bruises to his arms, knees and back.

He said he opened his eyes as he flew, believing he wouldn’t see 2011.

“I wanted to see the end coming. You’re only going to see it one time and I thought that was it,” he said. “It takes more than a tornado to get me.”

In Missouri, Emergency Management Coordinator Brad Nash says one person died in Dent County. The National Weather Service said a storm that may have been a tornado destroyed three mobile homes and damaged other property in the county. Damage was also reported in Fort Leonard Wood, and in the Rolla area five people were injured.

“I guess it’s a mess out there,” said Gary Carmack, chief of the Pulaski County Ambulance District. About 20 homes were damaged in an area of the fort that houses officers.

@ CHIEF, isnt it a shame we have to think this way? Youre right…something wicked this way comes. And I feel so bad for everyone who suffers.

We live across the river from St. Louis. We had tornado watches & warnings most of the day. Wicked winds, massive rains, sirens. Bizarre looking skies. We were ready with emergency equipment because we are used to it. However, this time we were warned that we would not be able to see the funnels because of the low cloud coverage, so if the sirens went off we were to take cover immediately. We spent most of the day in the basement. The people in the hardest hit areas did not have much warning & there was a lot of damage & unfortunately, injuries & death. We were lucky. God bless those unfortunates who lost loved ones & their homes.

God, be with these people. My wife has been following this story most of the evening. The Dairy farm tragedy is truly saddening.

But, ya gotta love the spunk of that “Superman” in the article! “I wanted to see the end coming. You’re only going to see it one time and I thought that was it,” he said. “It takes more than a tornado to get me.”

This mornings weather was ominous indeed. I live in Springdale, AR just about 25 miles or so southwest of Cincinnati, AR. I was awakened by some pretty wicked peals of thunder and a call from the local police department that we were under a tornado warning, flipped on the weather real quick while I quickly grabbed some necessities I have ready to go in just in case. Luckily though we dodged the bullet here in Springdale though the weather got pretty intense.

This type of weather in December is not as uncommon in this area as some might think, its kind of weird but not uncommon. I have lived in tornado alley all my life and have seen some pretty wicked weather in that time. I even rode out an F1 in a fireworks tent which was one heck of a ride, we didn’t have any place else to seek shelter due to the storm coming in so fast, again we were lucky and though worn out and a bit battered we survived.

My heart and prayers go out to those affected by this tragedy.

I heard The Veiled Prophet talk about tornados in the middle of winter two years ago. Since 2008 we have had largest earthquake in 100 years here, coldest winter on record there, most rain since records have been kept over there, hottest day on record another place. New records and hundred yr events happen from time to time, but does anyone else notice all these records being smashed in the past two years. Something is wrong…I just cant say for sure what.

Global climate change isn’t being caused by us, it is due to freakish patterns in our magnetosphere. I don’t have a link to a site that dipicts this, but the usgs also agrees….every time there is a huge, unexplained shift in the magnetosphere, there is a major earthquake, or series of them somewhere in the world. Look this up, folks, it will blow your guard. Or if you want a long, religious explaination, then look at this link.

@Walk… Don’t know where you live, but I’m in SW MO, and as soon as the weather was forecast to be warm with cold behind it (3 days ago), I knew it was a setup for tornadoes, so nothing unexpected or unusual here if you pay attention… can happen (and does) anytime that pattern is setup… not as rare as they’re making it out to be in Dec/Jan.

My prayers for the families of those lost; and for the survivors who are injured, homeless, or otherwise affected by this freakish event.

This is NOT from Global Warming garbage, it happens, and as many people now cover the earth the odds grow with someone at some point being caught in the crazy events when they do occur.

Hope you didn’t take me seriously about my global warming remark. It’s a joke!
I said the same thing in Nov. when we were having Feb. temperatures.
Everytime we have weird weather I play the warming alarmist. Just making fun of them.

It’s in events like this where the American people unite and help those afflicted. Does anyone have info on where we can send donations, food, blankets, anything? I’d rather send to the area churches than to some government set up baloney organization. These people need OUR help, let’s do what we can.
