43-year-old Man Fused to Chair for 2 Years by Urine and Feces, Dies

A 43-year-old morbidly obese Ohio man who fused to his chair after sitting in his own urine and feces for two years has died.
According to police, they were called to an apartment on Sunday after the man’s roommates reported he was unresponsive. What police discovered when they got to the apartment was disgusting in every sense of the word:
WTRF reports:
Authorities said he was sitting in his own feces and urine and maggots were visible.
Police were called in to help transfer the man to the hospital.
Authorities said they had to cut a hole in the wall to get the man out of his home.
Shockingly, two other able-bodied people lived there—another man, who had a separate bedroom, and the girlfriend of the man who was stuck in the chair. Officials say the girlfriend served food to him, since he never got up.
Bellaire Code Enforcer Jim Chase says now the tennants have been given orders to clean it or leave it.
One officer said it was the worst thing he ever responded to. And most said the worst part of all was the smell. Ironically the landlord says the man in the chair rented from her before and used to be a vital active person.
WTRF says the man died yesterday.

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 10:48amClearly the man had mental issues. We pay taxes for these things. We pay them willingly for programs to help people who cannot help themselves as humanitarians and brothers and sisters to the least of us in their time of need. We are conservatives, not progressives who only talk these things without paying taxes willingly and often otherwise (at all)..

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 10:39amA few years ago, there was a story that came out of Kansas, where a woman was stuck to the toilet, she refused to get off the toilet, and then, she got stuck to the thing. Her boyfriend didn’t know what to do,she didn’t want to get off the toilet, so he basically did whatever she needed him to do. If I remember correctly, she was constipated and eventually she died. They held the boyfriend liable for her death. I forget the rest of that story. But if they have any laws similar to the one in Kansas, those two are headed for the clink.

This story has nothing at all to do with what the msm doesn’t report, which is what The Blaze was created to do. It’s a sensationalistic rag piece that satiates the need for weird “news” while giving people something to jaw about…in other words, a waste of time and mind when The Blaze was never designed to be “entertainment.”

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 10:10amThis man was an adult. A once vital and active man who chose not to take care of himself and there was consequences, he chose to be lazy and disgusting. The other two are not responsible for his choices. I agree that they should have informed authorities that this man was obviously mentally unstable; but they were neither hired to care for him nor his legal guardians. If there is some kind of good Samaritan law that these people broke, then they should face some sort of consequences. However, I am of the opinion that this man’s “girlfriend” was also probably mentally unstable as well as the other roommate.

Posted on March 31, 2011 at 10:11amEDGAR, how about we let these two people be in charge of your mother or grandmother. There is more to this story than just this poor man’s death.
Report Post »Islesfordian
Posted on March 31, 2011 at 10:26amAt some point early on in the process this man had to make the decision NOT to get out of the chair to go to the bathroom and so did it in the chair. At some point in the first few days this situation would become noticeable to anyone in the house.
How could his “girlfriend” NOT have noticed that was what was going on? Did she have no sense of smell or of sight? She had to know this was what he was doing. She facilitated this action by feeding him rather than forcing him to get out of the chair. This went on for two years! Of course she is criminally responsible, or mentally insane herself, since any sane individual would know that he was killing himself by not getting out of the chair. If she had left him alone so that he would have had to get out in order to eat that be different.
How was he paying his rent? He could not hold a job this way. He never went to the bank. Who was cashing his check?
How could the landlord not have noticed? She said he always covered himself with a blanket. A blanket does not cover the stench of a year of feces and urine.
It seems likely that drugs were involved in this situation. Who but crack or meth addicts would live in such a house. These other two individuals used this poor man and kept him in order to facilitate their drug use.

Didn‘t take me long to figure out that this isn’t the vision Beck had for reporting what the MSM won’t. Even stories with real potential remain just that…summaries, rehashes, rewrites. Posted on March 31, 2011 at 10:38amActually, this story raises many issues that anyone with a libertarian bent needs to confront. Note some of the comments here. Should someone have the government step in in cases like this or did this man simply choose to live his life this way. When do we save someone from themselves or when do we respect and honor their liberty to make decisions for themselves.
I know many friends who currently look after elderly parents, parents who for one reason or another simply refuse to take a shower. These caretakers often live in fear that someone will accuse them of elder abuse. In fact, in some parts of the country the SEIU are using cases like this to try to force home health caretakers, EVEN WHEN THEY ARE FAMILY MEMBERS, become members of the union. So… before you discard this article, consider what your response is to it and think about where and how much we should ask government to intrude in our lives and our freedoms.

That way, the government can take the people’s possessions leaving none to go to the family, thus preventing wealth from being built. Posted on March 31, 2011 at 2:35pmRegarding the response from ‘firstHat’:
Absolutely correct. I think it’s vitally important to know where you stand, and the responses here against such (in some ways) a simple case to evaluate – as far as personal responsibility versus criminal negligence – are very telling. Some folks want to condemn the roommates – but how can you be sure the roommates weren’t on a mission to help this man? Perhaps, despite their best efforts, he was determined to become what he became. And others would liken this to animal cruelty, but the difference is that domesticated animals must be cared for to some degree – they actually do rely on their owners to care for them because they are unable to ‘hunt’ their food, or ‘find’ their water when the bowl is dry.
I think it’s the combination of both sides that has been and will be our downfall. The fact that I believe this man had the right to live the way he wanted to live, but because of the nanny-side people, that means I have to foot the bill for his medical care via my taxes, bogs the system down because the two are mutually exclusive. It‘s like throwing a car into a river and then abandoning the idea of a car because it didn’t work as designed while floating down the river…
You have to choose one side or the other – and evaluate every case individually before rendering judgment. Since we don’t know if this man was insane or not, we can’t accurately judge whether there should have been an intervention. But I do think, more important than the story being posted, is the sense you get from the responses. I’m learning a lot about the Blaze readers just by reading them all…
